Question

    Present age of ‘D’ is 45% more than that of ‘E’.

    9 years ago, ‘D’ was 1.75 times as old as ‘E’. Find the present age of ‘E’.
    A 18 years Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
    B 17.5 years Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
    C 21 years Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
    D 22.5 years Correct Answer Incorrect Answer

    Solution

    Let the present age of ‘E’ be ‘x’ years
    Therefore, present age of ‘D’ = 1.45x years
    ATQ;
    (1.45x – 9) = 1.75 × (x – 9)
    Or, 1.45x – 9 = 1.75x – 15.75
    Or, 6.75 = 0.3x
    Or, x = 22.5
    Therefore, present age of ‘E’ = 22.5 years
