Question
David’s current age is five years less than one-half
of his uncle's present age. After 6 years, his age will be 25% of his uncle’s age. What will David’s age be 4 years from now?Solution
ATQ,
Let the current ages of David and his uncle be ‘a’ and ‘b’ years respectively.
So, a = (b/2) - 5
Or, b = 2a + 10 ------- (I)
And, a + 6 = 0.25 × (b + 6)
Or, a + 6 = 0.25 × (2a + 10 + 6) [from equation I]
Or, a + 6 = 0.25 × (2a + 16)
Or, a + 6 = 0.5a + 4
Or, 0.5a = 2
Or, a = 4
Required age = 4 + 4 = 8 years
