Question
The present age ratio between 'A' and 'B' is 6:4
respectively. If the sum of 'A's age 3 years ago and 'B's age 8 years from now is 50 years, what is the present age of 'A'?Solution
ATQ,
Let the present age of 'A' and 'B' be 6a years and 4a years respectively.
So, age of 'A' 3 years ago = 6a - 3 years
And, age of 'B' 8 years later = 4a + 8 years
ATQ,
6a - 3 + 4a + 8 = 50
⇒ 10a + 5 = 50
⇒ 10a = 45
⇒ a = 4.5
Therefore, present age of 'A' = 6 × 4.5 = 27 years
