Question

Present age of ‘A’ is 40% more than that of ‘B’.

If 14 years hence from now, ‘B’ will be 8 years younger than ‘A’, then find the sum of present ages of ‘A’ and ‘B’.
A 48 years Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
B 42 years Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
C 43 years Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
D 47 years Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
E None of these Correct Answer Incorrect Answer

    Solution

    Let present age of ‘B’ be ‘x’ years Present age of ‘A’ = x × 1.40 = ‘1.40x’ years ATQ; (x + 14) + 8 = (1.40x + 14) Or, x + 22 = 1.40x + 14 Or, 8 = 0.40x Or, x = 20 So, present age of ‘B’ = 20 years And, present age of ‘A’ = 20 + 8 = 28 years Required sum = 20 + 28 = 48 years
