Question

Direction (Q.116-120): each of the questions given below has one question and two statements marked I and II. You have to decide whether the data provided in the statements are sufficient to answer the question. Read both the statements and give answer:

In how much time will a train running at a speed of 48 km/hr cross the other train running in opposite direction?

I. The length of the two trains is 90 metres and 120 metres respectively.

II. The speed of the second train is 60 km/hr.

A If the data in statement I alone are sufficient to answer the question, while the data in statement II alone are not sufficient to answer the question. Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
B If the data in statement II alone are sufficient to answer the question, while the data in statement I alone are not sufficient to answer the question. Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
C If the data in both statement I and II together are required to answer the question. Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
D If the data either in statement I alone or in statement II alone is sufficient to answer the question Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
E if the data in both the statements I and II together are not sufficient to answer the question. Correct Answer Incorrect Answer

Solution

From I, Distance = 120 + 90 = 210 m. From II, and the question, Relative speed = 48 + 60 = 108 km/hr. ∴ Time = (210 ×18)/(108 × 5) = 7 sec. Therefore, both the statement I and II together are required to answer the question.
