Question
Combination of ages of which pair is maximum?
Study the following information carefully and answer the questions given below it. Seven person namely –R, S, T, U, V, W and X was born in different years with the current base is taken as 2018. None of them was born before 1950 and not after 2004. Each person likes different laptops viz. HP, DELL, Lenovo, Apple, ASUS, ACER and Toshiba. Note: If it is mentioned that a person’s age is considered as the last two digits of another person’s birth year, then it will be at any sequence. For example, if the age of ‘P’ is considered as last two digit of birth year of ‘Q’ which is 1975; then the age of ‘P’ might be either 75 or 57 years. Age of T is 46 years and likes Toshiba. R’s age is equal to the last two digit of birth year of X. The difference of age of T and V is 12 years. S’s age is equal to the last two digit of birth year of V. W likes Apple. The difference of age of X and S is 6 years. Age of R is not less than 54 years. One who was born in 1978 likes ASUS. The difference of age of one who likes Apple and R is 28 years. One who likes DELL was born after 1972. S likes HP. W and U were not born on adjacent years. Difference of age of one who likes Lenovo and one who likes HP is 16 years.Solution
We have: Age of T is 46 years and likes Toshiba, that means T was born in 1972. The difference of age of T and V is 12 years, that means we have two possible year for V, in case (1) V was born in 1984, in case (2) V was born in 1960. S’s age is equal to the last two digit of birth year of V, that means in case (1) age of S must be either 48 or 84 year but 84 is not valid as no person was born before 1950 thus as S was born in 1970, in case (2) age of S must be either 06 or 60 year but 06 is not valid as no person was born after 2004 thus as S was born in 1958 and S likes HP. Based on above given information we have: Again, we have: The difference of age of X and S is 6 years, that means we have four possible birth year for X, in case (1a) X was born in 1964, in case (1b) X was born in 1976, in case (2a) X was born in 1952, in case (2b) X was born in 1964. R’s age is equal to the last two digit of birth year of X, that means in case (1a)& case (2b) possible age of R is either 64 or 46 years, as T was born in 1972 thus R must born in 1954, in case (1b) possible age of R is either 67 or 76 years, as no person was born before 1950 thus R must born in 1951, in case (2a) possible age of R is either 52 or 25 years, as R was not born after 1965, that means case (2a) is not valid. Based on above given information we have:
Case (2a) is not valid as R was not born after 1965. Again, we have: The difference of age of one who likes Apple and R is 28 years and W likes Apple, that means in case (1a) & (2b) W must born in 1982, in case (1b) W must born in 1979. One who was born in 1978 likes ASUS, that means U was born in 1978. As W and U was not born on adjacent years, that means case (1b) is not valid. Difference of age of one who likes Lenovo and one who likes HP is 16 years, that means in case (1a) R must likes Lenovo and S was born in 1970, case (2b) is not valid. One who likes DELL was born after 1972, that means V must likes DELL. Based on above given information we have final arrangement as follow:
Case (1b) is not valid as W and U was not born on adjacent years and case (2b) is not valid as Difference of age of one who likes Lenovo and one who likes HP is 16 years. So final is case-1a
