Question
Arun and Bala, alone can complete a work in 20 days and
30 days, respectively. They started the work together and left after 8 days such that the remaining work is completed by Charan alone in 8 days. If the total wage fixed for completing the work is Rs. 480, then find the share received by Charan.Solution
Let total work = 60 units {LCM of 20 and 30} So, efficiency of ‘Arun’ = (60/20) = 3 units/day Efficiency of ‘Bala’ = (60/30) = 2 units/day Amount of work done by Arun in 8 days = 3 × 8 = 24 units Amount of work done by Bala in 8 days = 2 × 8 = 16 units Amount of work done by Charan = 60 – (24 + 16) = 20 units Ratio of amount of work done by Arun, Bala and Charan = (24 : 16 : 20) = (6 : 4 : 5) Required wages of Charan = {5/(6 + 4 + 5)} × 480 = Rs. 160
