Question
A bus leaves town 'X' at 9:30 AM heading towards 'Y' at a
speed of 50 km/h. A van starts from the same place at 11:00 AM towards 'Y' at 70 km/h. At what time will the van catch up with the bus?Solution
ATQ,
Distance between bus and van when van starts = 50 × 1.5 = 75 km
Relative speed = 70 − 50 = 20 km/h
Time taken by van to catch up = 75 / 20 = 3.75 hours = 3 hours and 45 minutes
Required time = 11:00 AM + 3 hours 45 minutes = 2:45 PM
