Question
A total journey of 250 km is completed by Ravi partly by
boat at 25 km/h and the remaining by train at 50 km/h. If the whole trip took 6.5 hours, find the distance covered by Ravi by boat.Solution
ATQ,
Let the distance covered by boat be ‘d’ km.
Distance by train = (250 - d) km
So, (d/25) + [(250 - d)/50] = 6.5
Take LCM of 25 and 50 = 50
Multiply both sides by 50:
=> 2d + (250 - d) = 325
=> 2d + 250 - d = 325
=> d + 250 = 325
=> d = 325 - 250
=> d = 75
Therefore, Ravi travelled 75 km by boat.
