half of his journey. Out of the remaining distance, five-sixths was done travelling in a van and the rest by auto. If the distance covered by auto was 5 km, what was the distance he travelled totally?
A 60 km Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
B 45 km Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
C 72 km Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
D 48 km Correct Answer Incorrect Answer

      Solution

      Let the total distance be x km, Distance covered by car = x × (1/2) Remaining distance = x - x/2 = x/2 Distance covered by van = x/2 × (5/6) = 5x/12 Remaining distance = x/2 - 5x/12 = x/12 According to the question-   x/12 = 5   x = 5 x 12 x = 60
