    Question

    The ratio of (x + y):(x – y) is 19:3, where ‘x’ and

    ‘y’ are positive integers. Find the ratio of ‘x’ and ‘y’, respectively.
    A 12:11 Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
    B 11:8 Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
    C 18:23 Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
    D 17:20 Correct Answer Incorrect Answer

    Solution

    ATQ,

    (x + y):(x – y) = 19:3

    Let (x + y) be ‘19k’ ………… (I) (where ‘k’ is any integer)

    So, (x – y) = 19k × (3/19)

    So, x – y = 3k ………… (II)

    On adding equation (I) and (II), we have;

    2x = 22k

    Or, ‘x’ = ‘11k’

    On putting the value of ‘x’ = 11k in equation (I), we have;

    11k + y = 19k

    So, ‘y’ = 8k

    So, required ratio = (11k:8k) = 11:8
