Let no. of children = x ∴No. of pencils each got = x × 40/100 = 2x/5 As per the question, x × 2x/5 = 7840⇒ x² = 19600 ⇒ x² = 19600 ∴x = √19600 = 140 ∴ No. of pencils each child got = 2x/5 = 280/5 = 56
