Question
A sum of money is shared in the ratio of 2:3:5. The
smallest share is divided again in the ratio of 1:3. What fraction of the total sum of money is the larger of the two latter shares?Solution
Let the sum of money = x Rs
Ratio of shares = 2 : 3 : 5
Smallest share = 2x/2 + 3 + 5 = 1/5 x
1/5x is now divided in the ratio of 1:3
The biggest part = 3/4 × 1/5 = 3/20 of total sum of money.
