Total quantity of initial mixture = (75/0.25) = 300 litres Initial quantity of water = 0.75 X 300 = 225 litres Ratio of initial quantity of milk and water respectively = 75:225 = 1:3 Quantity of water removed = (3/4) X 2p = (3p/2) litres Quantity of milk removed = (1/4) X 2p = (p/2) litres Quantity of water in resultant mixture = 225 - (3p/2) = [(450 - 3p) /2] litres Quantity of milk in resultant mixture = 75 - (p/2) + 25 = [(200 - p) /2] litres So, [(450 - 3p) /2]: [(200 - p) /2] = 3:2 Or, 2 X (450 - 3p) = 3 X (200 - p) Or, 900 - 6p = 600 - 3p Or, 3p = 300 Or, 'p' = 100 Therefore, required quantity of water = (450 - 3 X 100) ÷ 2 = (150/2) = 75 litres
