      Question

      A container has milk and water in the ratio 4:3. 35

      litres of mixture is removed and 10 litres of water is added so that the quantity of milk is 6 litres more than water. Find the initial quantity of the mixture.
      A 120 litres Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
      B 180 litres Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
      C 100 litres Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
      D 147 litres Correct Answer Incorrect Answer

      Solution

      Milk after removal = 4x – 35 × 4/7 = 4x – 20 litres
      Water after removal = 3x – 35 × 3/7 = 3x – 15 litres
      Water after adding = 3x – 15 + 10 = 3x – 5 litres
      ATQ:
      4x – 20 = (3x – 5) + 6
      4x – 20 = 3x + 1
      x = 21
      Initial quantity = 7x = 147 litres
