Question

A blend of milk and honey consists of 80% milk. When 24

liters of honey are added to this mixture, the amount of honey in the new mixture becomes 50% less than the amount of milk. Determine the initial quantity of the mixture.
A 120 litres Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
B 100 litres Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
C 115 litres Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
D 145 litres Correct Answer Incorrect Answer

    Solution

    Let the initial quantity of the mixture be ‘5x’ litres. Quantity of milk in the initial mixture = (0.80 × 5x) = ‘4x’ litres Quantity of honey in the initial mixture = (0.20 × 5x) = ‘x’ litres ATQ, (x + 24) = 4x × 0.5 Or, x + 24 = 2x So, x = 24 So, initial quantity of the mixture = ‘5x’ = 120 litres
