      of mixture is removed and 14 litres of water is added. In the resultant mixture, the quantity of milk is double the quantity of water. Find the quantity of water in the initial mixture.
      A 12 litres Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
      B 14 litres Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
      C 16 litres Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
      D 18 litres Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
      E 20 litres Correct Answer Incorrect Answer

      Solution

      Let the quantity of the milk in the initial mixture = 6x litres
      The quantity of the water in the initial mixture = x litres

      The quantity of the milk in 49 litres of mixture = (49 / 7) × 6 = 42 litres
      The quantity of the water in 49 litres of mixture = (49 / 7) × 1 = 7 litres

      According to the question,
      (6x – 42) = 2 × (x – 7 + 14)
      6x – 42 = 2 × (x + 7)
      6x – 42 = 2x + 14

      4x = 56
      x = 14

      The quantity of the water in the initial mixture = 14 litres
