    600 ml of a mixture contains milk and water in the ratio

    of 14 respectively. If 90 ml of water and 100 ml of milk are added into it, then the ratio of milk to water in the resulting mixture will be 5:2. Find the value of ‘w’.

    ATQ Quantity of milk in 600 ml of mixture = 600 × 14/(14 + w) Quantity of water in 600 ml of mixture = 600 × w/(w + 14) According to the question: {8400/(14 + w) + 100}/{600w/(w + 14) + 90} = 5/2 Or, 8400/(14 + w) + 100 = 1500w/(w + 14) + 450 Or, (8400 – 1500w)/(w + 14) = 350 Or, 8400 – 1500w = 350w + 4900 Or, 1850w = 3500 Or, w = 2
