Quantity of water in the initial mixture = 240 × (7/15) = 112 litres Quantity of petrol in the initial mixture = 240 × (8/15) = 128 litres Since, we’re not adding petrol, 128 litres of petrol will represent 40% of the new mixture. So, total quantity of resultant mixture = 128 ÷ 0.4 = 320 litres Quantity of water to be added = 320 – 240 = 80 litres
