A vessel contains mixture of milk and water mixed
in the ratio 8:7, respectively. 105 litres of the mixture is replaced with 18 litres of water such that the quantities of milk and water in the resultant mixture become equal. Find the initial quantity of mixture in the vessel.Solution
Let the initial quantities of milk and water in the vessel be 8x litres and 7x litres respectively.
105 litres mixture contains 56 litres milk and 49 litres water.
According to question:
8x – 56 = 7x – 49 + 18
x = 25
So the initial quantity of mixture = 15 × 25 = 375 litres
