Question
The average number of toffees distributed among five
boys is 8. If each boy received 1 toffee more than the boy before him, then find the highest number of toffees received by any boy.Solution
Let the toffees received by 1st boy be ‘x’
According to the question,
(x + x + 1 + x + 2 + x + 3 + x + 4) = 8 × 5
Or, 5x + 10 = 40
Or, 5x = 30
Or, x = 6
Therefore, highest number of toffees received by any boy = (x + 4) = 10
