Question
Six years ago, age of X was 10 years less than 1.4 times his present age. The ratio of age of Y, 2 years ago to the age of Z, 4 years hence is 1:2. Find the age of Y, if the age of Z is 60% more than the age of
X.
Solution
Let the present age of X, Y and Z be βxβ, βyβ and βzβ years respectively. x β 6 = 1.4 Γ x β 10 0.4 Γ x = 4 x = 4/0.4 x = 10 years So, age of z = 10 Γ 1.6 = 16 years Also, (y β 2)/(z + 4) = 1/2 y β 2 = (1/2) Γ 20 y = 10 + 2 = 12 years
