Question
Five years ago, the ratio of ages of 'A' and 'B' was 4:5.
Seven years from now, their age ratio will be 5:6. Find the present age of 'Y' who is 6 years younger than 'B'.Solution
ATQ,
Let the age of 'A' and 'B', five years ago be '4a' and '5a' years, respectively.
So, (4a + 5 + 7) : (5a + 5 + 7) = 5 : 6
Or, 6 × (4a + 12) = 5 × (5a + 12)
Or, 24a + 72 = 25a + 60
Or, a = 12
Required age = 5 × 12 + 5 - 6 = 59 years
