    Question

    In each of the questions below some statements are given followed by some Conclusions. You have to take the given statements to be true even, if they seem to be at variance from commonly known facts. Read all the conclusions and then decide which of the given conclusions logically follows from the given statements disregarding commonly known facts.

    Statements:  Only a few Root are Stem.

    Only a few Stems are Tree. All Stem are Branches. All Branches are Soil. Conclusions: I. Some Soil are not Root. II. Some Stems are not Tree. III. All Soil can be Root.
    A Only III follows Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
    B Either I or II follows Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
    C Only II and III follow Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
    D Either I or II and III follows Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
    E None follows Correct Answer Incorrect Answer

    Solution

    Some Root are Stem (I) + Some Stems are Tree (I) → No conclusion. Hence conclusion I does not follow. Only a few Stems are Tree → Some Stems are Tree (I) and Some Stems are not Tree (O). Hence conclusion II follows. Some Root are Stem (I) + All Stem are Branches (A) → Some Root are Branches (I) + All Branches are Soil (A)   →   Some Root are Soil (I) → Probable conclusion →   All Soil can be Root (A). Hence conclusion III follows.
