Question
Who lives in Flat β X of floor β
2? Answer the questions based on the information given below. Eight persons P, Q, E, F, C, D, J and U are living in a building having four floors where ground floor is numbered as 1, the floor above it is numbered as 2 and so on till the topmost floor which is numbered as 4. Each floor is having two types of flats i.e. Flat β W and Flat β X such that flat β W of floor β 2 is exactly above the flat β W of floor β 1 and exactly below the flat β W of floor β 3 and so on. Similarly, flat β X of floor β 2 is exactly above the flat β X of floor β 1 and exactly below the flat β X of floor β 3 and so on. Also, Flat β X is to the east of Flat β W. There is one floor between Qβs and Fβs floor. E lives just below Dβs flat such that both live in the same type of flat. J and U live in the same type of flat such that J lives just above Uβs floor and lives immediate west of Q. C does not live in flat which is adjacent to Jβs flat. F lives on a floor above Q. Q and F live in different types of flats.Solution
1. E lives just below Dβs flat such that both live in the same type of flat. 2. J and U live in the same type of flat such that J lives just above Uβs floor and lives immediate west of Q. 3. C does not live in flat which is adjacent to Jβs flat. 4. F lives on p floor above Q. So, Q must live in flat β X of floor β 2 as J lives immediate west of Q and J lives above the floor on which U lives, which means F lives on topmost floor in flat β W. Now, D and E lives in same flat and E live below D which means E must live on floor β 3 in flat β X and D lives on 4th floor in flat β X. Now, C and J do not live in same flat which means C must live on ground floor in flat βX so, U must live on ground floor in flat β W. The final arrangement is as follows:
