Question
Class 'A' has 108 students, and the ratio of girls to boys is 1:2. If the average number of boys in classes 'A' and 'B' is 144, and the average number of girls in both classes is 72, then what is the total number of students in class 'B'?
Solution
Number of girls in class A = (1/3) Γ 108 = 36
Number of boys in class A = (2/3) Γ 108 = 72
Number of boys in class B = 144 Γ 2 - 72 = 288 - 72 = 216
Number of girls in class B = 72 Γ 2 - 36 = 144 - 36 = 108
Total number of students in class B = 216 + 108 = 324
