Question
A train takes 18 seconds to cross a pole and 12 seconds
to cross a man who is running in the opposite direction with respect to the train at a speed of 5 m/s. Find the length of the train.Solution
Let the speed of the train be 'x' m/s.
So, length of the train = 18 X x = '18x' metres
ATQ;
{18x/(x + 5)} = 12
Or, 18x = 12 X (x + 5)
Or, 3x = 2 X (x + 5) {Dividing both sides by 6}
Or, 3x = 2x + 10
So, x = 10
So, length of the train = 10 X 18 = 180 metres
