Question
A train travelling with a speed of ‘x’ km/h can
cross a pole in 6 seconds, and a 180 metre long platform in 15 seconds. Find the distance travelled by the train in 7 hours.Solution
Let speed of train = y m/s
So, length of train = 6 × y = 6y metres
According to question:
6y + 180 = 15y
⇒ 9y = 180
⇒ y = 20 m/s
So, x = 20 × 18/5 = 72 km/h
Desired distance = 72 × 7 = 504 km
