    Question

A train travelling with a speed of β€˜x’ km/h can

cross a pole in 6 seconds, and a 180 metre long platform in 15 seconds. Find the distance travelled by the train in 7 hours.
A 360 km Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
B 432 km Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
C 490 km Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
D 504 km Correct Answer Incorrect Answer

    Solution

    Let speed of train = y m/s
    So, length of train = 6 Γ— y = 6y metres

    According to question:
    6y + 180 = 15y
    β‡’ 9y = 180
    β‡’ y = 20 m/s

    So, x = 20 Γ— 18/5 = 72 km/h
    Desired distance = 72 Γ— 7 = 504 km
