    Question

Bike ‘A’ is 150 metres ahead of bike ‘B’. Bike

‘A’ is travelling at 16 m/s and bike ‘B’ is travelling at 54 km/h. If both bikes are moving in the same direction, how long will bike ‘B’ take to overtake bike ‘A’?
A 65 secs Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
B 42 secs Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
C 30 secs Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
D Can't be determined Correct Answer Incorrect Answer

    Solution

    Speed of bike ‘B’ = 54 ÷ 3.6 = 15 m/s
    So, relative speed of bike ‘B’ with respect to bike ‘A’ = 15 – 16 = –1 m/s
Since the relative speed is negative, bike ‘B’ will never overtake bike ‘A’.
