Question
The speed of a car is 20% more than that of a bike. Both
of them start from a same point. After travelling for 10 hours, the speed of the bike is increased by 40%. After 12 hours from starting, the car was 48 km ahead of the bike. Find the initial speed of the bike.Solution
Let the initial speed of the bike be ‘x’ km/hr Therefore, speed of the car = 1.20x km/hr According to the question, 12 × 1.20x – (10x + 2 × 1.40x) = 48 => 14.4x – 12.8x = 48 => x = 48/1.6 = 30 km/hr
