    Question

    The speed of a car is 20% more than that of a bike. Both

    of them start from a same point. After travelling for 10 hours, the speed of the bike is increased by 40%. After 12 hours from starting, the car was 48 km ahead of the bike. Find the initial speed of the bike.
    A 31 km/hr Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
    B 33 km/hr Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
    C 35 km/hr Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
    D 30 km/hr Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
    E None of these Correct Answer Incorrect Answer

    Solution

    Let the initial speed of the bike be ‘x’ km/hr Therefore, speed of the car = 1.20x km/hr According to the question, 12 × 1.20x – (10x + 2 × 1.40x) = 48 => 14.4x – 12.8x = 48 => x = 48/1.6 = 30 km/hr
