    Solution

    Let Rs. P be invested at 12% simple interest.   Hence, (5000 - P) is invested at 10% simple interest. According to the question,   (P × 12 × 2)/100 + ((5000 - P) × 10 × 2)/100 = 1044 24P - 20P + 100000 = 104400 4P =4400 P=1100.
