Question
The selling price of a piece of furniture when sold at a
profit of 18% is Rs. 54 more than its selling price when sold at a loss of 12%. What will be the selling price of the furniture if it is sold at a profit of 22%?Solution
ATQ,
Let the cost price of the furniture = Rs. '100y'
According to the question,
100y × 1.18 - 100y × 0.88 = 54
Or, 118y - 88y = 30y = 54
So, y = (54/30) = 1.8
Cost price of the furniture = 1.8 × 100 = Rs. 180
Required selling price = 180 × 1.22 = Rs. 219.60
