    Let length and breadth of the rectangle be x and y respectively. As we know, Area of the rectangle = xy New length of the rectangle = x × 104/100 = 1.04x New breadth of the rectangle = y × 94/100 = 0.94 New area of the rectangle = 1.04x × 0.94y = 0.9776xy Area decreased by (in %) = [(xy-0.9776xy) /xy] x 100   = 2.24%
