Question
A and B fill a tank in 6 and 8 hours. Pipe C empties it
in ‘x’ hours. All three open together fill the tank in 4 hours. Find x.Solution
Let the capacity of the tank = 24 liters (LCM of 6, 8, and 4)
Amount of water filled by pipe A in one hour = 24 ÷ 6 = 4 liters
Amount of water filled by pipe B in one hour = 24 ÷ 8 = 3 liters
Amount of water filled by pipes A, B and C together in one hour = 24 ÷ 4 = 6 liters
Amount of water taken by pipe C alone in one hour = 4 + 3 – 6 = 1 liter
Time taken by pipe C alone to empty the tank = 24 ÷ 1 = 24 hours
