Let the total capacity of tank be 108 litres (LCM of 36 and 54)
Efficiency of inlet pipe = (108/36) = 3 litres/minute
Efficiency of outlet pipe = (108/54) = -2 litres/minute
Required time = (0.5 × 108) ÷ (3 - 2) = 54 minutes
