Question
A college had 5500 students in 2018, with 68% of them being
girls and the remaining boys. In 2019, the number of girls increased by 40% and the number of boys decreased by 30%. Find the percentage change in the student count in 2019 as compared to 2018.Solution
ATQ,
Number of girls in 2018 = 5500 × 0.68 = 3740
Number of boys in 2018 = 5500 - 3740 = 1760
Number of girls in 2019 = 3740 × (140/100) = 5236
Number of boys in 2019 = 1760 × 0.70 = 1232
Total students in 2019 = 5236 + 1232 = 6468
So, percentage change in total students = {(6468 - 5500) / 5500} × 100 = 17.6%
