Question
Shristi’s income is 20% less than Alka’s income, and
their expenditure ratio is 2:3 respectively. Shristi and Alka save Rs. 22,000 and Rs. 23,000, respectively. If Alka allocates 25% of his income toward rent, calculate how much Alka spends on rent.Solution
Let the income of Alka be Rs. '5x'. So, income of Shristi = 0.80 X 5x = Rs. '4x' So, expenditure of Shristi = Rs. (4x - 22,000) And, expenditure of Alka = Rs. (5x - 23,000) ATQ, (4x - 22000) ÷ (5x - 23000) = (2/3) Or, 12x - 66000 = 10x - 46000 So, 'x' = (20000/2) = 10,000 Therefore, expenditure of Alka on rent = 5x X 0.25 = 50,000 x 0.25 = Rs. 12,500Â
