Question
Initially, Rina’s salary was Rs. 40,000 and the ratio of
her expenditure to her savings was 3:5. After a salary increase, she reduced her expenditure by 20% and increased her savings by 20%. What was the hike in her salary?Solution
ATQ,
Initially, expenditure of Rina = 40000 × (3/8) = Rs. 15,000
Initially, savings of Rina = 40000 × (5/8) = Rs. 25,000
After salary hike, expenditure = 15000 × (80/100) = Rs. 12,000
After salary hike, savings = 25000 × (120/100) = Rs. 30,000
So, increased salary = 12000 + 30000 = Rs. 42,000
Required salary hike = 42000 – 40000 = Rs. 2,000
