Question
Priya’s salary was Rs. 36,000 with an expenditure to
savings ratio of 2:7. After a hike, her expenditure dropped by 10% and her savings went up by 30%. What was her new salary hike?Solution
ATQ,
Initially, expenditure of Priya = 36000 × (2/9) = Rs. 8,000
Initially, savings of Priya = 36000 × (7/9) = Rs. 28,000
After salary hike, expenditure = 8000 × (90/100) = Rs. 7,200
After salary hike, savings = 28000 × (130/100) = Rs. 36,400
So, increased salary = 7200 + 36400 = Rs. 43,600
Required salary hike = 43600 – 36000 = Rs. 7,600
