    A spent 30% and 26% of his monthly salary on food and

    rent, respectively. Of the remaining amount, he gave 20% and 40% to his mother and brother, respectively. Find the amount spent by him on food, if the difference between the amount received by his brother and the amount spent on rent is Rs. 2251.20.

    Let the monthly salary of A be Rs. ‘x’ Amount spent on food = Rs. 0.30x Amount spent on rent = Rs. 0.26x Amount received by brother = (x - 0.30x - 0.26x) x 0.40 = 0.176x So according to question: 0.26x - 0.176x = 2251.20 0.084x = 2251.20 x = 26800 So, the amount spent on food = 0.30 x 26800 = Rs. 8040
