      Question

The marks scored by a boy in three subjects are in the

ratio 2 : 3 : 4. Boy scored an overall aggregate of 75% in the exam. If the maximum marks in each subject are the same, in how many subjects did boy score more than 70% marks?
A One Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
B Three Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
C none Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
D Two Correct Answer Incorrect Answer

      Solution

Let the maximum marks in each subject be 100.
      ∴ Total score = 75% of (100 + 100 + 100) = 75% of (300) = 225
      Also, 75% marks in a subject correspond to 75% of (100) = 75
Let a boy have scored 2x, 3x and 4x in the three subjects.
      ∴ 2x + 3x + 4x = 225
      ∴ 9x = 225 i.e. x = 25
Hence, his marks in the three subjects are 50, 75 and 100.
Hence, he has scored more than 70 in exactly two subject.
