Question
‘P’ invested Rs. 3000 in a business. ‘Q’ joined
x months later with an investment of Rs. 2000. If at the end of the year, Q’s share in the profit is Rs. 2400 out of a total profit of Rs. 7200, find the value of x.Solution
According to the question,
(3000 × 12) : {2000 × (12 – x)} = (7200 – 2400) / 2400
Or, 36000 : {2000(12 – x)} = 4800 / 2400
Or, 36000 : {2000(12 – x)} = 2 : 1
So, 36000 × 1 = 2 × 2000(12 – x)
36000 = 4000(12 – x)
36000 = 48000 – 4000x
4000x = 48000 – 36000
4000x = 12000
x = 3
