Question
There are balls of three colours i.e. red, yellow and
black. The number of black balls is 6 more than the average number of balls of each colour. The number red balls is 20% less than the number of black balls, and 6 more than the number of yellow coloured balls. Find the number of yellow coloured balls.Solution
Let the average number of balls of each colour be ‘x’.
Therefore, number of black coloured balls = (x + 6)
Number of red coloured balls = 0.8(x + 6)
Number of yellow coloured balls = 0.8(x + 6) – 6
Therefore,
(x + 6) + 0.8(x + 6) + 0.8(x + 6) – 6 = 3x
Or, 0.4x = 9.6
Or, x = 9.6/0.4 = 24
Therefore, number of yellow coloured balls = 0.8(x + 6) – 6 = 18
