    Question

A mixture contains 70 litres milk and rest is water.

When 20 litres milk and 22 litres water is added to the mixture, the ratio of milk to water becomes 3 : 2. Find the initial quantity of mixture.
A 96 litres Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
B 102 litres Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
C 108 litres Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
D 112 litres Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
E 120 litres Correct Answer Incorrect Answer

    Solution

Let initial quantity of water be ‘n’ litres. So,
    (70 + 20) : (n + 22) = 3 : 2 Or,
    90 : (n + 22) = 3 : 2 Or,
    n + 22 = 60 Or,
n = 38 Therefore, required quantity of mixture
    = 70 + 38
    = 108 litres
