Question
Mixture ‘D’ consists of milk and water in the ratio
4:5. Another mixture ‘E’ has milk and water in the ratio 3:7. If 90 litres of ‘D’ and 70 litres of ‘E’ are mixed together, what will be the ratio of milk to water in the resulting mixture?Solution
ATQ,
Quantity of milk in ‘D’ = (4/9) × 90 = 40 litres
Quantity of water in ‘D’ = (5/9) × 90 = 50 litres
Quantity of milk in ‘E’ = (3/10) × 70 = 21 litres
Quantity of water in ‘E’ = (7/10) × 70 = 49 litres
Required ratio = (40 + 21) : (50 + 49) = 61:99 = 61:99
