Question
Two mixtures 'E' and 'F' have gold to silver in the ratio
of 7:2 and 9:4 respectively. If 135 grams of E and 182 grams of F are mixed together, then find the ratio of gold to silver in the final mixture.Solution
Quantity of gold in 135 grams 'E' = 135 × (7/9) = 105 grams
Quantity of silver in 135 grams 'E' = 135 - 105 = 30 grams
Quantity of gold in 182 grams 'F' = 182 × (9/13) = 126 grams
Quantity of silver in 182 grams 'F' = 182 - 126 = 56 grams
So, required ratio = (105 + 126) : (30 + 56) = 231 : 86
