Question
240 ml of mixture A containing oil and vinegar in the
ratio of 5:3 respectively is mixed with another 120 ml of mixture B containing oil and vinegar in the ratio of 2:1 respectively. Find the ratio of oil to vinegar in the resultant mixture.Solution
Quantity of oil in 240 ml of mixture A = 5/8 × 240 = 150 ml
Quantity of vinegar in 240 ml of mixture A = 3/8 × 240 = 90 ml
Quantity of oil in 120 ml of mixture B = 2/3 × 120 = 80 ml
Quantity of vinegar in 120 ml of mixture B = 1/3 × 120 = 40 ml
Desired Ratio = (150 + 80):(90 + 40) = 230:130 = 23:13
