Question
720 ml of a mixture contains milk and water in the ratio 5:4. If `x` ml of milk and `(x - 40)` ml of water are added, the new ratio becomes 7:6. Find the value of `x`.
Solution
Milk = (5/9) Γ 720 = 400 ml
Water = (4/9) Γ 720 = 320 ml
(400 + x)/(320 + x - 40) = 7/6
6(400 + x) = 7(280 + x)
2400 + 6x = 1960 + 7x
x = 440
