Question
Alloy ‘P’ has aluminium and nickel in a 7:9 ratio.
Alloy ‘Q’ is made up of nickel and zinc in a 4:6 ratio. If 48 grams of ‘P’ and 60 grams of ‘Q’ are fused, what will be the resulting ratio of aluminium, nickel and zinc respectively?Solution
ATQ,
Weight of aluminium in 48 grams of 'P' = 48 × (7/16) = 21 grams
So, weight of nickel in 48 grams of 'P' = 48 − 21 = 27 grams
Weight of nickel in 60 grams of 'Q' = 60 × (4/10) = 24 grams
So, weight of zinc in 60 grams of 'Q' = 60 − 24 = 36 grams
So, total weight of nickel = 27 + 24 = 51 grams
So, required ratio = 21:51:36 = 7:17:12
