Question

Present age of ‘A’ is 25% more than that of ‘B’.

If 22 years hence from now, ‘B’ will be 20 years younger than ‘A’, then find the sum of present ages of ‘A’ and ‘B’.
A 120 years Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
B 190 years Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
C 180 years Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
D 130 years Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
E None of these Correct Answer Incorrect Answer

    Solution

    Let present age of ‘B’ be ‘x’ years Present age of ‘A’ = x × 1.25 = ‘1.25x’ years ATQ; (x + 22) + 20 = (1.25x + 22) Or, x + 42 = 1.25x + 22 Or, 20 = 0.25x Or, x = 80 So, present age of ‘B’ = 80 years And, present age of ‘A’ = 80 + 20 = 100 years Required sum = 80 + 100 = 180 years
